لا تلْطُفَنَّ بذي لُؤمٍ فتُطْغيَهُ

لا تلْطُفَنَّ بذي لُؤمٍ فتُطْغيَهُ

واغْلُظْ لهُ يأتِ مِطْواعاً ومذعانا

واغْلُظْ لهُ يأتِ مِطْواعاً ومذعانا

Do not be gentle with a base man, lest you make him insolent.

And be harsh with him; he will come obedient and submissive.

إنَّ الحديد تُلينُ النارُ شِدَّتهُ

إنَّ الحديد تُلينُ النارُ شِدَّتهُ

ولو صبَبْتَ عليه البحرَ ما لانا

ولو صبَبْتَ عليه البحرَ ما لانا

Indeed, fire softens the hardness of iron,

but even if you poured the sea over it, it would not soften.
