لا ترْكَننَّ إلى أخْلاقِ غانيَةٍ

فالغدْرُ شأنُ الغَواني أيها الرجلُ

فالغدْرُ شأنُ الغَواني أيها الرجلُ

Never trust the character of a beautiful woman;

Do not rely on the morals of a debauched woman

for treachery is the way of beautiful women, O man.

For betrayal is the way of the debauched, O man

بَيْنا تَسُرُّ بوصلٍ نامَ عاذِلُهُ

بَيْنا تَسُرُّ بوصلٍ نامَ عاذِلُهُ

مَلَّتْ سُعادُ وبئس الخَلَّةُ الملل

مَلَّتْ سُعادُ وبئس الخَلَّةُ الملل

While she delighted you with a union whose reproacher had fallen asleep,

While you rejoice in the union, her reproacher sleeps

Suʿād grew bored—and boredom is a wretched trait.

Happiness palled and misery became tiresome
