And I, in praising the gallant knight Yazdan,

A man of glory, of awe-inspiring might and bounty—

Though I hunt rare conceits with my wit,

And rouse them with judgment from every roost,

And am aided in praise, until I fashion it,

By devotion like the love of the love-stricken al-ʿAmiri—

Am like one describing dawn's light while the sun is radiant:

Everyone with a mouth joins him in describing it.

His good deeds reach all, without restriction,

Like pouring rain that waters rich and destitute.

In days of peace and battle, he is acknowledged

By armored warrior and learned scholar as foremost.

For his argument in debate is like his sword

When it quivers in the head of a resolute warrior.

Victorious champion of God's faith, and the banner

By which one is guided in valor and generosity.

So may you be blessed with the sacred month, living to greet

Others like it, as long as a sharp spearhead gives a spear its might.
