وعسكرُه التوفيقُ واللّهُ ناصِرُهْ
And had he wished, he would have mustered no battalion for war;
Had he willed, he would not have assembled an army for war,
And his army is divine favor, and God his helper.
His troops are divine aid, and God is his supporter.

Yet he would accept nothing but generosity and valor;
But he refused except to give and to help,
In both states we look to him with hope, and fear him.
We hope for them in their current state and are wary of them.

He is the dawn: his face and deeds guide us
He is the morning guiding with his face and his actions,
When the dark depths of a night of calamity lead us astray.
When the night of troubled times led us astray with its darkness.

Ever-forgiving toward the offender, lavish in pardoning his crime,
He forgives the sinner and restrains his own anger,
When his misdeeds have delivered him to death.
When its raging flames submit to the dove of peace.

His noble deeds are his ancestral honors and his Quraysh—
His virtues are his lineage, and his tribe Quraysh,
His clans, when noble lineage is reckoned.
When the generous count their honorable clans.

لشرٍّ وغيثُ الحيِّ عَزَّتْ مواطره
The refuge of the fugitive whose protectors have abandoned him
The refuge of the outcast who surrendered to his sanctuary,
To harm, and the clan's rain when its rain clouds grow scarce.
From evil, and the rain of the living strengthened its downpours.

Al-Zaynabī's sword-belt and cloak are hung
The Zainabi cloak and its fur are entrusted,
Upon one who delights in bounty, sweet in disposition.
To the sweetest of maidens, fresh and pure.
