And from the house of al-Muzaffar comes a man of rare excellence,

Who joins his valor to his generosity.

He emulated his people in honor and glory,

And surpassed the radiant, fair-faced men in eminence.

So he came forth like the edge of an Indian sword,

Wielded by an armored warrior in combat.

The neighbor alights with him, a valiant man,

    Swift to victory, whose success is hoped for;

Beside a pillar of God's faith, who protects

His ally from the evil destined for him.

He surpasses the ancient gray one in endurance,

And in resolve, he outdoes the tips of spears.

And you find him deadly poison among enemies,

And among close friends, a blend of water and wine.

He scornfully deems the thousands of his bounty

    A sandal-strap or worn-out stitching thread.

So may the festivals and felicitations be congratulated

On his account, as long as the changing winds blow.
