Ah, who will bear from me to a noble lord—
Oh herald, bear my message to the valiant one
lofty as the summit of a towering mountain,
Who towers like the lofty peak of a great mountain

who in bounty and might rivals the downpour of the
Challenging the dew and calamity with the sheen
clouds and the sweep of the keen-cutting sword,
Of clouds and the might of a polished sword

who, whenever he settles in a drought-stricken land,
When he settles a land of dwellings
makes its barren ground more fertile than spring—
He restores it greener than the spring

The banner of the sincere and loyal one
free of hypocrisy in his humble submission:
Innocent of hypocrisy in submission

that I am smitten with love for you, folding
I confess I am enamored with your love
my curving ribs around burning anguish.
And pine over the dunes and ridges
أحنُّI yearn حنينَthe yearning of رزاحةٍan exhausted she-camel فقيدٍbereft

I yearn as a weary, bereft she-camel yearns,
I yearn with the longing of one parted from a friend
shifting to and fro within reins and girth-straps,
Struggling through hardship and adversity

for the face that smiles on those seeking his bounty,
For the bright face of my confidant
despite hardships, and for the beneficent hand.
And the helping hand raised in humility
وماand not غالتْhas destroyed هوايmy love نوىًseparation شَطونٌfar-off
ولكنbut زادَhas increased بُعْديmy distance فيin ولوعيmy ardor
Nor has far-off separation destroyed my love,
My passion grew no wild desires
but my distance has increased my ardor.
But distance increased my torment
ولوand if مُكنتI were enabled منto عطفِturning back المَطاياthe riding camels
لكانَwould surely be إلىto أبيAbu (father of) نَصْرٍNasr رجوعيmy return
And if I could turn the riding camels back,
Had I but the favor of mounts
my return would be to Abu Nasr.
I would return to my father Nasr
