اذا الأبطالُ مارستِ المَنايا

ولَثَّمَ شمس معْركها الغُبارُ

ولَثَّمَ شمس معْركها الغُبارُ

When heroes grapple with death,

When heroes grapple with death,

and dust kisses the sun of their battlefield,

And dust veils their battlefield's sun,

فقطبُ الدين فارسُها وحامي

فقطبُ الدين فارسُها وحامي

حَقيقتها وسيِّدُها المُشارُ

حَقيقتها وسيِّدُها المُشارُ

then Qutb al-Din is its champion and the guardian

Then Qutb al-Din is their knight and defender

of its very essence, its renowned lord.

Of their honor, and their renowned lord.

فتى الفخرين من جودٍ وبأسٍ

فتى الفخرين من جودٍ وبأسٍ

اذا ما اشْتَدَّ جَدْبٌ أو غِمارُ

اذا ما اشْتَدَّ جَدْبٌ أو غِمارُ

Foremost of horsemen in generosity and valor,

A youth of two glories: generosity and valor,

whenever drought or the press of battle grows fierce.

When drought grows harsh or battle rages,

تشاكى من قراهُ ومن وغاهُ

تشاكى من قراهُ ومن وغاهُ

كُماةُ الروْعِ والكومُ العِشارُ

كُماةُ الروْعِ والكومُ العِشارُ

Of his hospitality and his warfare both complain

His hospitality and his warfare draw complaints

battle’s champions and the high-humped, full-term she-camels.

From battle's champions and high-humped she-camels ten months pregnant.

شكرتُ نداهُ من غير التماسٍ

شكرتُ نداهُ من غير التماسٍ

كشكرِ الروضِ باكرَهُ القِطارُ

كشكرِ الروضِ باكرَهُ القِطارُ

I thanked his bounty, though I never sought it,

I gave thanks for his bounty without asking for it,

as the meadow thanks the rain that visits it at dawn.

Like a meadow's thanks when rain visits it in the morning.
