O rider of the thick-cheeked she-camel, whose trot surpasses

The fleet trotter and the unflagging loper.

He is accustomed to exhaustion, with no resting place except what

Gnaws at the hump [wording unclear], and a leaning saddle of hackberry wood.

He has shunned deceit; his resolve was lured neither by

The Euphrates’ bank nor the island of Babylon.

Set down your saddle at Karkh al-Zab, for it is,

With Abu al-Muhannad, the finest lodging for a traveler.

You will find bounty more widespread than pouring rain,

And martial might keener than sword-edges and quivering spears.
