And I shall indeed offer praise, as long as a dove sings,

to you, Ra'is al-Din, in every gathering:

praise whose tale the garden longs to spread,

and which stirs the ardor of the lover singing of love.

It makes men's bodies sway, as though it were

the intoxicating heat of wine, or fumes of aloeswood.

You surpassed the points of stout spears in valor,

and exceeded the rainfall of the radiant cloud.

And you excelled in keeping faith with the absent; so too did

the rhymes finely wrought between heart and tongue.
