A vizier—drought flees the air above his land,

And the points of leveled spears fear him.

Time grew fragrant through him, until it seemed to be

A Darin perfumer's musk-pouches and wafts of saffron perfume.

In council, his knee-wraps are fastened about a noble man,

Whose house's pillar is lofty, whose benefactions are many,

With little room for excuses when giving freely and bearing costs,

And a breast open wide to forgive sin and crime.

    وفي البذل للنُّعْمى حياءُ البراقِع

    He sends firebrands in gleaming mail charging against the foes;

Yet in bestowing favors, he has the modesty of veiled women.

He has a true flash from his bounty's smile for the lightning-watcher,

When the bright, gleaming lightning-flashes prove false.
