مُقلداتٍgarlanding رقابnecks الناسِthe people بالمِنَنِwith benefactions
Say to al-Mujahid: may his favors never cease
Tell the mujahid, his noble deeds still
to garland people's necks with benefactions.
Adorn people's necks with favors
ماnot ضاقfell short قوليmy speech عنof شيءٍanything أحاولُهُI attempt it
إلاexcept بشكرin giving thanks الذيthat which أوليتyou bestowed منof حَسَنِgoodness
My speech has never fallen short of anything I attempt,
My words never fall short of anything I attempt
except in giving thanks for the goodness you have bestowed.
Except to thank the Bestower of bounties
فإنْand if حَصرتُI am tongue-tied فقلبيthen my heart أفوهٌeloquent ذربٌfluent
وفيand in الضمائرinward feelings ماthat which يغنيsuffices عنin place of اللَّسنِeloquence
And if I am tongue-tied, my heart is eloquent and fluent;
If I falter, my heart is eloquent
and inward feelings hold what makes eloquence needless.
And my conscience suffices for my tongue
