مجيئكَ يا صدر الأفاضل نعمةٌ

مجيئكَ يا صدر الأفاضل نعمةٌ

لِخَالِقنا في مثلها نُكثْر الحمدا

لِخَالِقنا في مثلها نُكثْر الحمدا

Your coming, O foremost of the virtuous, is a blessing.

Your arrival, O noble one, is a blessing

For such a blessing, we offer our Creator abundant praise.

For which we thank our Creator abundantly

ولو أنني أسطيع سعياً إليكُم

ولو أنني أسطيع سعياً إليكُم

سعيتُ على عيني ولكنّها رَمْدا

سعيتُ على عيني ولكنّها رَمْدا

And were I able to hasten to you,

If I could make effort to come to you

I would hasten on my very eye—but it is inflamed.

I would have, were it not for this blindness

لقد أنكرتْ طعمَ الهدوِ فَصِرت مُذْ

لقد أنكرتْ طعمَ الهدوِ فَصِرت مُذْ

ثلاث ليالٍ لا أقرّ ولا أهدا

ثلاث ليالٍ لا أقرّ ولا أهدا

Indeed, it no longer knows the taste of repose; for

I have lost the taste of sleep for three nights

three nights now I have neither rested nor found calm.

Restless, unable to relax or be at peace

جَعَلْنَ على إنسان عيني غشاوةً

جَعَلْنَ على إنسان عيني غشاوةً

وصيّرن ما بيني وبين الورى سُدا

وصيّرن ما بيني وبين الورى سُدا

They have laid a veil over the pupil of my eye,

My eyes have been veiled from seeing people

and turned the space between me and humankind into a barrier.

A barrier placed between me and all creation

وأهدِ إلى العبدِ الدعاء فإنّه

وأهدِ إلى العبدِ الدعاء فإنّه

إلى صاحب الآلام أحسن ما يُهدَى

إلى صاحب الآلام أحسن ما يُهدَى

And give this servant the gift of prayer, for it

Send blessings upon the servant in prayer

is the best gift that can be given to one in pain.

For it brings the most comfort to one in pain

عليك من الله العَلي تحيّة

عليك من الله العَلي تحيّة

تفوحُ فيحكي نشرها المسك والنَّدا

تفوحُ فيحكي نشرها المسك والنَّدا

May a greeting from God, the Most High, be upon you,

May you be greeted by God Most High

wafting forth, its fragrance resembling musk and aromatic incense.

With a fragrance more sweet than musk or dew
