قالوا إلام تَحُبّ آلَ محمدٍ

قالوا إلام تَحُبّ آلَ محمدٍ

وتَظَلَّ مَشغوفاً بهِمْ وتَبيتُ

وتَظَلَّ مَشغوفاً بهِمْ وتَبيتُ

They said, “How long will you love the House of Muhammad,

They said, "How long will you love the family of Muhammad,

remaining heartsmitten with them by day and spending the night so?”

and remain enamored of them by day and by night?"

فأجبتُهم كفُوا الملامَ فإِنّني

فأجبتُهم كفُوا الملامَ فإِنّني

أُرْشِدتُ نهجَ ودِادهِمْ فَهُديتُ

أُرْشِدتُ نهجَ ودِادهِمْ فَهُديتُ

I answered them, “Cease your reproach, for I

So I answered them, "Cease your reproach, for I

was shown the path of loving them, and thus was guided.”

قالوا فإنَّ الفَقْرَ حَظُّ مُحبّهمْ

قالوا فإنَّ الفَقْرَ حَظُّ مُحبّهمْ

أرضيتَ قلتُ نعمْ رَضيتُ رضيتُ

أرضيتَ قلتُ نعمْ رَضيتُ رضيتُ

They said, “But poverty is the allotted share of those who love them.”

They said, "But poverty is the lot of one who loves them.

“Are you content with that?” I said, “Yes—I am content, content.”

Are you content?" I said, "Yes, I am content, I am content.

إنّي ملكتُ ذَخائراً أَحْرَزْتُها

إنّي ملكتُ ذَخائراً أَحْرَزْتُها

مِنْ كيمياء ودَادهمْ فَغَنِيتُ

مِنْ كيمياء ودَادهمْ فَغَنِيتُ

Indeed, I have gained treasures that I secured

Indeed, I possess treasures I have secured

from the alchemy of loving them, and so grew rich.

from the alchemy of love for them, and so have grown rich.

فدَعوا الملامَ فقد أهبَّ بمهجَتي

فدَعوا الملامَ فقد أهبَّ بمهجَتي

داعي الهُدَى فَأجبْتُ حِينَ دُعيتُ

داعي الهُدَى فَأجبْتُ حِينَ دُعيتُ

So cease your reproach, for my very soul has been roused

So leave off reproach, for my soul has been summoned

by the herald of guidance; I answered when I was called.
