وأذْهَبَ اللهُ عَنّا الهمَّ والنَصبا
Praise be to God: we have attained our wish and desire.
Praise be to Allah, we attained questions and responses,
And God has removed worry and fatigue from us,
And Allah has removed from us anxiety and hardship.

نِلنا العناء به والهمَّ والكُربا
by returning from Naʿiṭ—may such a town never exist!
With the return of Na'at, though he was not from a land,
There we suffered hardship, worry, and distress.
We attained fatigue with him, and anxiety and sorrow.

When shall I see Naʿiṭ—and no other town—with
When will I see Na'at, beyond the lands, while
the lightning's gleam having kindled a flame in its bowels?
The lightning has ignited fires in its depths?

No one looks from there toward any quarter
A man cannot look towards any direction of it
without seeing something strange in it or its people.
Except he sees wonders from it or its people.

A people whose features make the eyes suffer,
A people, for them is a nature that eyes suffer with,
black of face, neither non-Arabs nor Arabs.
Black in lineage, neither non-Arab nor Arab.

And you have found ample room for speech;
And you have found the place of speech spacious,
so say whatever you wish, without falsehood or lies.
So say what you wish, neither falsehood nor lies.

We passed through it as winter laid its breasts upon it,
We were sheltered with it while the winter pouring down its hail,
and the cold above it had torn the veils apart,
And the cold from above it has torn the veils.

In a night of Jumada, one with calls,
when no one could see the tent ropes for its darkness.
A man cannot see from its darkness a fibre.

No dog barks in it except once,
before wrapping its tail around its snout.
Until it wraps its snout with its tail.

The air had unfurled the winds' banners there,
The air has unfurled the flags of winds in it,
and bitter cold had sent a clamorous army into it,
And sent in it an army of violent winds.

And launched its raids until it stirred in it
a fierce war that aroused woe and ruin.
A fierce war that brings ruin and havoc.

And the torrential rain has clouded from the galloping of winds,
until the air veiled itself in it and covered its face.
Until the air covers itself from it and dons the cloak.

And the army tents steadfastly faced
to break every pole that stood upright.
Breaking every pillar that was erected.

Hellfire to meet their cold, it would surely die out.
If Hell met its coldness, it would perish.

Cannot find strength for what has befallen them to flee.

The wind snatches away before their hands can grasp it.

And every person is incapacitated, unable to muster strength,
the wind had folded his head and knees together.
The wind having wrapped from him both head and leg.

As for food, like water, there was none;
As for the food, it is like the water in absence,
we could not seek it under any circumstances.
We cannot seek it in any condition.

I kept weeping for Rabīʿ within its bounds,
I remained weeping for spring in its expanses,
in grief, and seeking Rajab throughout its reaches.
Sorrowfully, and seeking refuge in its areas.

What the Merciful promised has come and drawn near.

So listen to something small of wonders that cannot
be counted; whoever claims to number them all has lied.
Be counted, and whoever claims to limit them has lied.
