ياO مُبْتدِيinitiator of ظلْميwronging me سَتلْقىyou will meet
غِبّthe consequences of صنعكyour deed فيat ابتدائكْyour outset
O you who began wronging me, you will meet
O you who initiated my injustice, you will find
the consequences of your deed at your very outset.
The harm of your initiation in your beginning
كُنbe كَيفَhowever شئتyou wish قَدindeed اتّكلتُI have relied
علىon النَّوائبmisfortunes فيin جزائكْrequiting you
Be as you please; I have relied
Be however you wish, I have entrusted
on misfortunes to requite you.
Myself to vicissitudes for your punishment
قدindeed كنتُI was أَهْوىloving القربَcloseness منكَto you
قليلَhaving little صبرٍpatience عَنaway from لِقائكmeeting you
I once loved being close to you,
I used to love being near you
scarcely able to bear not meeting you,
A little patience from meeting you
إذwhen كنتَyou were تَسْعىstriving فيfor رِضايَmy satisfaction
وكنتُand I was أسْعَىstriving فيfor رِضائِكyour satisfaction
when you strove to please me,
When you were seeking my satisfaction
and I strove to please you,
And I was seeking your satisfaction
حتّىuntil تغيَّرَchanged منكَin you مَاwhat
قدindeed كنتُI had أعهدُknown مِنof وفائكْyour loyalty
until what was in you changed—
Until what I had covenanted from you changed
the loyalty I had known.
And the course of time distracted you from
وثناكَand turned you away صرفُthe vicissitudes of الدهرِtime عَنْfrom
ودّيmy affection وكدّرَand clouded مِنsome of صفائكْyour purity
And time's vicissitudes turned you away from
My love and troubled your purity
my affection, and clouded your purity.
So now I have come to seek
فالآنso now قدindeed أَبحتُI have permitted أَطلبُI seek
مَنsomeone who يُخلِّصُfrees مِنْfrom إخائكyour friendship
So now I have given myself leave to seek
One who saves me from your brotherhood
someone to free me from your friendship.
And you will seek my companionship
ولَسَوفand will surely تَطلبُyou seek صُحبتيmy company
فأقولthen I will say مُتْdie بوخيمِfrom the dire effects of دائكْyour disease
And you will surely seek my company,
So I say, away with your woeful affliction
then I shall say: 'Die of your grievous disease!'
