لا وَرمّانِ النّهودِ

لا وَرمّانِ النّهودِ

فَوقَ أغْصان القُدودِ

فَوقَ أغْصان القُدودِ

No—by the pomegranates of breasts

Not pomegranate blossoms

above the branches of slender figures,

Above the branches of twigs

وأقاحٍ وورودِ

وأقاحٍ وورودِ

مِن ثغورٍ وخُدودُ

مِن ثغورٍ وخُدودُ

and by daisies and roses

Nor wild roses,

of mouths and cheeks,

Lips and cheeks,

وغصونٍ مِنْ قدودٍ

وغصونٍ مِنْ قدودٍ

تَتَثنَّى في البُرودِ

تَتَثنَّى في البُرودِ

and by branches of slender figures

Nor twigs bending

swaying in striped robes,

In the coolness,

وَوِصالٍ مِن حبيبٍ

وَوِصالٍ مِن حبيبٍ

بعدَ هَجْرٍ وصدودِ

بعدَ هَجْرٍ وصدودِ

and by union with a beloved

Nor a union with a beloved

after abandonment and rejection:

After estrangement and aloofness

لَمْ أحلْ عنكم ولا حُلَّتْ

لَمْ أحلْ عنكم ولا حُلَّتْ

عُقُودٌ مِنْ عُهودي

عُقُودٌ مِنْ عُهودي

I have not turned away from you, nor have

Have I relinquished you or loosened

the bonds of my vows been undone.

The knots of my covenants

وَلَئِنْ قَلّ اصْطِباري

وَلَئِنْ قَلّ اصْطِباري

فَغَرامي في مَزيدِ

فَغَرامي في مَزيدِ

And even if my patience has waned,

And if my patience is little

my passion keeps growing.

My passion is in increase

وَلَئِنْ غبتمْ فَلَسْتُمْ

وَلَئِنْ غبتمْ فَلَسْتُمْ

عَنْ فؤادي ببعيدِ

عَنْ فؤادي ببعيدِ

And even if you are absent, you are not

And if you are absent you are not

far from my heart.
