لاmay you not ذقتَyou taste حرَّthe heat of صَبَابتيmy ardent longing
لا ذقتَ حرَّ صَبَابتي
وكُفيتَand may you be spared ماwhat أَلْقَىI suffer بهاthrough it
وكُفيتَ ما أَلْقَى بها
May you never taste the heat of my ardent longing,
You have not tasted the heat of my passion,
And may you be spared what I suffer through it.
And have been spared what I have endured,
فالنَّارُfor fire منamong أَسْمَائِهاits names
فالنَّارُ من أَسْمَائِها
والموتُand death مِنْamong أَلْقَابهاits epithets
والموتُ مِنْ أَلْقَابها
For fire is among its names,
For fire is among the names it bears,
And death is among its epithets.
And death among what it is called.
