إن الكتابة شأنُها

إن الكتابة شأنُها

أعْزِزْ بهِ عندِي وأَعظِمْ

أعْزِزْ بهِ عندِي وأَعظِمْ

Indeed, writing's standing—

Writing has its own place,

How esteemed it is in my eyes, and how great!

In my eyes of greatest worth.

يَعلُو بها قَدرُ الفَتَى

يَعلُو بها قَدرُ الفَتَى

وتُعزُّ صاحبهَا وتُكْرمْ

وتُعزُّ صاحبهَا وتُكْرمْ

Through it, a young man's stature rises,

Through it the merit of the youth ascends,

And it ennobles its practitioner and honors him.

And he who masters it is honored and well-received.

ولقَدْ دَخَلْنَا لِلصّنَاعةَِ

ولقَدْ دَخَلْنَا لِلصّنَاعةَِ

من قريبٍ ربِّ سلَّمْ

من قريبٍ ربِّ سلَّمْ

And indeed, we have entered the craft

Let me enter into this art,

Just recently—my Lord, keep us safe!
