يميناًI swear بِكمby you ماnot حُلْتُI turned away عَنْfrom صدقِthe sincerity of ودَكمlove for you
يميناً بِكم ما حُلْتُ عَنْ صدقِ ودَكم
وتُرْبةِand by the grave of صَبْريmy patience إنَّنيindeed I لِلْهوىto love تِربُan age-mate
وتُرْبةِ صَبْري إنَّني لِلْهوى تِربُ
I swear by you: I have not turned from my sincere love for you.
My right hand I'll not withhold from your friendship true,
And by my patience's grave, I am indeed love's peer.
Though my patience is tried, and for love brought low.
ولولاَand were it not for هواكُمْlove for you ماnot طربتُI felt delight لِمُنشدٍat a singer
ولولاَ هواكُمْ ما طربتُ لِمُنشدٍ
ولاnor شاقنيstirred my longing منthrough ذكرهhis mention الجزعُthe valley bend والشّعبُand the ravine
ولا شاقني من ذكره الجزعُ والشّعبُ
And were it not for my love for you, I would not have thrilled to a singer,
Were it not for your love, no minstrel could move me so,
Nor would the valley bend and the ravine have stirred my longing at his mention of them.
Nor would sorrow or longing cause me such woe.
