حَتّامَfor how long أكْتمُI conceal فيكfor you الشَّوقthe longing والكمدَاand the anguish
حَتّامَ أكْتمُ فيك الشَّوق والكمدَا
واَنفقُand I spend العمرَmy life فيin وجدْيmy yearning عليكfor you سُدىin vain
واَنفقُ العمرَ في وجدْي عليك سُدى
How long shall I conceal my longing and anguish for you,
I conceal in you my passion and longing
And spend my life in vain, yearning for you?
And spend a lifetime with my devotion to you in vain
وكَمْand how often أردِّدُI repeat زَفْراتيmy sighs وأكتُمُهاand I conceal them
وكَمْ أردِّدُ زَفْراتي وأكتُمُها
إذاwhenever انْقَضَتْended نهدٌa sigh أبتعتُهاI bought it (likely intended: I followed it with) نهدَاa sigh
إذا انْقَضَتْ نهدٌ أبتعتُها نهدَا
And how often I repeat my sighs and conceal them!
And how I repeat my sighs and conceal them
Whenever one sigh ends, I follow it with another sigh.
