ألحاظُهُhis glances كالسّهامِlike the arrows فِعلاًin effect
ألحاظُهُ كالسّهامِ فِعلاً
بَلْrather فوقَbeyond ماwhat تفعلُdo السّهامُthe arrows
بَلْ فوقَ ما تفعلُ السّهامُ
His glances are like arrows in their effect;
His glances like arrows in effect
Rather, they surpass what arrows do.
Nay, beyond what arrows can effect
وقدُّهand his figure كالقَضيبlike the branch ليناًin suppleness
وقدُّه كالقَضيب ليناً
بلrather دونَهُinferior to him السّمرُthe acacias والبشامُand the balsam trees
بل دونَهُ السّمرُ والبشامُ
And his figure is like a branch in suppleness;
His stature like a supple wand
Rather, acacias and balsam trees fall short of him.
Nay, more pliant than myrtle wand
