أمولايO my lord قَدْindeed أهدىoffered as a gift أسيرُthe captive ودادكمof your affection
أمولاي قَدْ أهدى أسيرُ ودادكم
لمالِكِهto his master شيئاًsomething يسيراًsmall منof القَطرrain
لمالِكِه شيئاً يسيراً من القَطر
O my lord, the captive of your love has offered
O my lord, the captive of your affection has offered
his master a humble gift: a few mere drops.
to his master a few drops of rain.
فجدso be generous بقبولٍin accepting واعذرِand pardon العبدَthe servant مِنّةًas a favor
فجد بقبولٍ واعذرِ العبدَ مِنّةً
فماfor ... not خلتُI thought أنّthat القَطْرrain يُهْدىis offered as a gift إلىto البحرthe sea
فما خلتُ أنّ القَطْر يُهْدى إلى البحر
So deign to accept it, and pardon your servant as an act of grace;
So be generous in accepting it, and graciously pardon the servant;
for I never thought that drops could be offered as a gift to the sea.
for I never thought rain would be offered as a gift to the sea.

Nor will this bondsman ever attain the measure of your worth,
And the bondsman will never reach the height of your worth,
even if he came bearing the radiant sun and the full moon.
even if he brought the radiant sun and the full moon.
