مولاي للشعراء حَقٌّ لازمٌ

لا يَنبغي ف شأنهِ الإغضاءُ

لا يَنبغي ف شأنهِ الإغضاءُ

My lord, poets possess a binding right.

My lord, the poets have a binding right;

This is no matter to which one should turn a blind eye.

It must not be overlooked.

وبِبابِكَ المحروسِ منهم عصبَةٌ

وبِبابِكَ المحروسِ منهم عصبَةٌ

مستِّهُمُ البأساءُ والضرّاءُ

مستِّهُمُ البأساءُ والضرّاءُ

And at your well-guarded gate stands a band of them;

And at your guarded gate is a band of them,

misery and adversity have afflicted them.

Whom hardship and adversity have afflicted.
