أغيرِ أَبي السبِّطِ لِلْمصْطَفى

أغيرِ أَبي السبِّطِ لِلْمصْطَفى

أجابَ ولَبَّاه لمَّا دَعَا

أجابَ ولَبَّاه لمَّا دَعَا

Did anyone but the father of al-Mustafa's grandson

My father, may he live long, opposed Al-Mustafa

answer and heed him when he called,

He answered and turned to him when he called

وَصَلَّى وكلّهمُ مشركٌ

وَصَلَّى وكلّهمُ مشركٌ

وزكَّى بخَاتِمِه راكِعا

وزكَّى بخَاتِمِه راكِعا

and pray while all the others were polytheists,

And prayed while they were all polytheists

and give alms with his ring while bowing?

And paid zakat bowing in prayer

وقَدْ كان لِلْمصطفى ثانياً

وقَدْ كان لِلْمصطفى ثانياً

فَلِمْ جعلوهُ لَهُمْ أربعا

فَلِمْ جعلوهُ لَهُمْ أربعا

And he had been second to al-Mustafa;

And he was already second to Al-Mustafa

why, then, did they make him fourth among them?

So why did they make him fourth?

علامَ إلى الذّكرِ لم تَرْجعَا

علامَ إلى الذّكرِ لم تَرْجعَا

غَدَاةَ الخِلاف ولم تَفْزَعا

غَدَاةَ الخِلاف ولم تَفْزَعا

Why did you two not return to the Reminder

Why didn't you both return to the mention

on the morning of discord, or seek refuge in it?

The morning after the conflict and not panic

كأنكما لِحَّديثِ الغَديرِ

كأنكما لِحَّديثِ الغَديرِ

وعَقْد الولاَيةِ لم تَسْمَعا

وعَقْد الولاَيةِ لم تَسْمَعا

As though you two, of the report of Ghadir

As if you both didn't hear the hadith of Ghadir

and the covenant of authority, had never heard.

And the allegiance to the Guardianship

ظلَمْتُمْ نبيِّ الهدى أجرَهُ

ظلَمْتُمْ نبيِّ الهدى أجرَهُ

وقتَلتُمُ أَهْلَه أجْمَعَا

وقتَلتُمُ أَهْلَه أجْمَعَا

You denied the Prophet of guidance his reward,

You wronged the Prophet of guidance his reward

and killed his entire household.

And killed his family altogether

رعاكُمْ ولَم يأْلُ في هَدْيكمْ

رعاكُمْ ولَم يأْلُ في هَدْيكمْ

فَهَلاً رعَيْتُمْ له ما رَعَى

فَهَلاً رعَيْتُمْ له ما رَعَى

He cared for you and spared no effort in guiding you;

He shepherded you and did not fail in guiding you

why, then, did you not safeguard for him what he safeguarded?

So why didn't you tend to him what he tended?

وكيفَ غدَا حقّه فيكم

وكيفَ غدَا حقّه فيكم

ولَم تَبْلُ أعْظمُهُ ضَائِعا

ولَم تَبْلُ أعْظمُهُ ضَائِعا

And how did his due among you come to be

How did his right among you become lost

lost, though his bones had not yet decayed?

And his greatest not attained scattered?

فَرعتُم مَنابرَ لم تَرْتضي

فَرعتُم مَنابرَ لم تَرْتضي

سِوى حَيْدَرٍ منكمُ قارعا

سِوى حَيْدَرٍ منكمُ قارعا

You ascended pulpits that would accept no one

You tended pulpits that you did not approve

but Haydar among you as their speaker.

Other than Haydar opposing you

فآهٍ لَها عثرةً مِنكمُ

فآهٍ لَها عثرةً مِنكمُ

أقولُ إذا ذُكِرَتْ لا لَعا

أقولُ إذا ذُكِرَتْ لا لَعا

Alas, then, for that stumble of yours!

So alas for the stumbling from you

I say, whenever it is recalled: "May there be no recovery!"

I say when it is mentioned no no

فلا رَحمَ الله من قد غدا

فلا رَحمَ الله من قد غدا

لأرحامِ خيرِ الوَرى قَاطِعَا

لأرحامِ خيرِ الوَرى قَاطِعَا

So may God have no mercy on whoever has become

So may Allah not have mercy on whoever

a severer of the kinship ties of the best of humankind.
