Far from it! That is a faith I shall not abandon,
Until I come tomorrow among the martyrs.

How long must blind imitation beset me among you?
My years passed without my glimpsing a fire of guidance.

So today I praise my Creator and thank Him,
With thanks through which I seek more bounty and aid.

For He rescued me from the turbulent waters of ignorance's sea,
By His grace, and granted me success—glory be to Him—and guided me.

I now hope, through my striving in opposition to you,
For a life of ease beside the Prophet tomorrow.

How many a man, poring over a volume, has kept worshipping it,
While his days and nights pass in vain!
إنّيindeed I رضيتُI have accepted كِتابthe Book of اللهGod ليfor me بدلاًa substitute
منfor كلّevery فَدْمٍdullard علىupon الآراءopinions قدalready جَمَداhas grown rigid

I have accepted God's Book as my substitute
For every dullard grown rigid in his opinions,

حَسْبيenough for me بهwith it إنّindeed فيهin it الهَديguidance والرَشَداand right direction
And what Haydara narrated from the Chosen One—
It suffices me: in it are guidance and right direction.

I have followed Zayd, the imam of truth, keeping to
His path; I follow no one other than him.

So cease blaming me, for I am a man
Who accepts nothing else as faith and creed.
واللهِby God لوeven if أنّthat روحيmy soul دونهin its defense تَلِفَتْperished
لاَnot حلْتُI turned away عَنْهfrom it ولاnor فَارقتُهI abandoned it أبَداever
By God, even if my soul perished in its defense,
I would not turn from it, nor ever abandon it.
