وثلاث لمّا بدتْ ليّ منها

سلبتني بهنّ ثوبَ وقاري

And when three things of hers appeared to me,

with them she stripped me of the robe of my dignity:

حاجباها ومُقلتاها وما تَنثرُ

حاجباها ومُقلتاها وما تَنثرُ

مِن درّ لفظِها السحّارِ

مِن درّ لفظِها السحّارِ

her two eyebrows, her two eyes, and what she scatters

of the pearls of her bewitching speech—

كالقسِيّ المعطّفات وكالأسهمِ

كالقسِيّ المعطّفات وكالأسهمِ

مَبْريّةً وكالأَوتارِ

مَبْريّةً وكالأَوتارِ

like curved bows, and like arrows

sharpened, and like bowstrings.
