شبابٌ غيرُ مذْمومٍ تولَّى

شبابٌ غيرُ مذْمومٍ تولَّى

وشيبٌ قد أتى أهلاً وسَهْلاَ

وشيبٌ قد أتى أهلاً وسَهْلاَ

Blameless youth has departed;

A blameless youth has passed away

and gray hair has arrived—welcome!

And hoary age has come, welcome and serene

مضَى عمري الطويلُ ومَرَّعيشي

مضَى عمري الطويلُ ومَرَّعيشي

كأنّي لَمْ أعش في الدَّهرِ إلاّ

كأنّي لَمْ أعش في الدَّهرِ إلاّ

My long lifetime has passed, and my life has gone by,

My long life has passed as if I lived

as though I had lived in this world only...

Naught but an hour of the whole age
