And one of wondrous beauty, with dusky lips,
With elegance and beauty he shone bright,
With black pupils and bright eye-whites, dark-hued.

أناI أبكيI weep منbecause of جفاهُhis coldness
أنا أبكي من جفاهُ
وهوand he مِنِّيat me يتبسَّمْhe smiles
وهو مِنِّي يتبسَّمْ
I weep at his coldness,
I cry from his disdain,
While he smiles at me.
While he just smiles at me.
كِدتُI nearly أنto أهلكَI perish فيهfor love of him
كِدتُ أن أهلكَ فيه
غيرexcept أنthat اللهGod سَلّمْkept me safe
غير أن الله سَلّمْ
I nearly perished for love of him,
I almost perished from it,
But God kept me safe.
If God had not kept me safe.
