نَقَضْتَ عهودي فاسترحتُ من الهوى

نَقَضْتَ عهودي فاسترحتُ من الهوى

وقد كان قلبي في عناءٍ من الحُبّ

وقد كان قلبي في عناءٍ من الحُبّ

You broke my pledges, so I found relief from passion.

You broke your promises so I was relieved of passion

And my heart had been in torment from love.

Though my heart had been in distress from love

جزى اللهُ نقضَ العهد خيراً فإنّهُ

جزى اللهُ نقضَ العهد خيراً فإنّهُ

أعانَ على إخراج حُبكَ من قلبي

أعانَ على إخراج حُبكَ من قلبي

May God reward the breaking of the pledge with good, for it

May God reward the breaking of the pact well, for it

helped remove my love for you from my heart.

Helped extract your love from my heart

فها أنا لا تجري عليك مدامعي

فها أنا لا تجري عليك مدامعي

لِبُعدٍ ولا يشتاق قلبي إلى القربِ

لِبُعدٍ ولا يشتاق قلبي إلى القربِ

So here I am: my tears do not flow for you

So here I am, no longer shedding tears for you

because of separation, nor does my heart yearn for nearness.

For distance, nor does my heart yearn for nearness

ولا في وصالٍ منكَ أطلبُ شافعاً

ولا في وصالٍ منكَ أطلبُ شافعاً

ولا رُسُلي تأتي إليكَ ولا كتبي

ولا رُسُلي تأتي إليكَ ولا كتبي

Nor do I seek an intercessor for union with you,

Nor in union with you do I seek an intercessor

nor do my messengers come to you, nor my letters.

Nor do my messages come to you, or my letters

فَسِرْ حَيثما شاءَتْ ركابُكَ إِنّني

فَسِرْ حَيثما شاءَتْ ركابُكَ إِنّني

لَفي سعةٍ نْ لاَ أقِلُّ مِنَ الصّحْبِ

لَفي سعةٍ نْ لاَ أقِلُّ مِنَ الصّحْبِ

So go wherever your mounts wish; indeed, I

So go wherever your mounts wish, I am

am at ease [unclear fragment], not short of companions.

At ease, no longer valuing the company
