أشفَقتُ إذ أوجَعوهُ ضَرباً

أشفَقتُ إذ أوجَعوهُ ضَرباً

عليهِ من جوره خَشِيتُ

عليهِ من جوره خَشِيتُ

I felt pity when they hurt him with blows;

I grieved when they hurt him with blows

I feared for him because of his cruelty.

I feared for him from their tyranny

فقال لا تخشَ نحنُ قَومٌ

فقال لا تخشَ نحنُ قَومٌ

لَيسَ على غيرِهَا نموتُ

لَيسَ على غيرِهَا نموتُ

So he said, “Do not fear; we are a people

But he said “Do not worry, we are a people

who die for nothing other than it.”

Who die only for her and no other”
