كنانة عزّ فوَّقتْ لِلْعِدى نَصْلاً

كنانة عزّ فوَّقتْ لِلْعِدى نَصْلاً

وغَايَةُ مجدٍ أطلعتْ لِلْعُلَى شبلا

وغَايَةُ مجدٍ أطلعتْ لِلْعُلَى شبلا

A quiver of might that has nocked an arrowhead for the foes,

Kanana demonstrated valor, triumphing over enemies with her sword

And a pinnacle of glory that has brought forth a lion cub for the heights,

And the pinnacle of glory shone its radiant light for the exalted

وأفق فخارٍ أطلعَ البدرَ زاهراً

وأفق فخارٍ أطلعَ البدرَ زاهراً

يُنير فَيمْلاَ نورُهُ الحزنَ والسَّهلا

يُنير فَيمْلاَ نورُهُ الحزنَ والسَّهلا

And a horizon of pride that has brought forth the radiant full moon,

The horizon of pride unveiled the full moon in all its splendor

It shines, and its light fills the rugged ground and the plain.

Illuminating, its light dispelling gloom and darkness across the land

وروضةُ فضلٍ أنْبتْ غصن سؤددٍ

وروضةُ فضلٍ أنْبتْ غصن سؤددٍ

عَلاَ فوقَ دوحات المكارم واستَعْلَى

عَلاَ فوقَ دوحات المكارم واستَعْلَى

And a garden of excellence that has grown a branch of nobility,

The garden of virtue grew branches of glory that towered

It rose above the great trees of noble virtues and towered high.

High above the domain of all things noble and sublime

ونجمٌ به تُرمَى حواسدُ مجدهِ

ونجمٌ به تُرمَى حواسدُ مجدهِ

ونجلٌ لخير الرسل أكْرِمْ بهِ نَجْلاً

ونجلٌ لخير الرسل أكْرِمْ بهِ نَجْلاً

And a star with which the enviers of his glory are pelted,

With it the envious are targeted, the radiance of its glory assailed

And a scion of the best of messengers—how noble a scion he is!

An offspring of the best of messengers, may it honor progeny

وفرعُ كمالٍ أصْلُه سيّدُ الورى

وفرعُ كمالٍ أصْلُه سيّدُ الورى

فيا حبذا فرعاً ويا حبّذا أصْلاً

فيا حبذا فرعاً ويا حبّذا أصْلاً

And a branch of perfection whose root is the lord of humankind,

A branch of perfection, its root the master of all humanity

So, how splendid a branch, and how splendid a root!

So excellent the branch, so excellent the root that bore it

وملكٌ نضاهُ اللهُ سيفاً لدينه

وملكٌ نضاهُ اللهُ سيفاً لدينه

يقود إلى أعدائهِ الخيلَ والرَّجْلاَ

يقود إلى أعدائهِ الخيلَ والرَّجْلاَ

And a king whom God has unsheathed as a sword for His faith,

A king ordained by God, a sword for His faith

He leads horses and foot soldiers against his foes.

Who marshals horse and infantry against His enemies

يُشَتّت شَملَ الكَافرين بعزْمِهِ

يُشَتّت شَملَ الكَافرين بعزْمِهِ

ويجْمع للدّينِ الحنيف به شَملا

ويجْمع للدّينِ الحنيف به شَملا

He sunders the unity of the unbelievers through his resolve,

Shattering the unity of unbelievers by his resolve

And through it gathers the ranks of the upright faith.

And for the upright religion uniting its adherents through his reign

يهدم ربعَ الظلمِ بالبيض والقنا

يهدم ربعَ الظلمِ بالبيض والقنا

ويوسع أهلَ الأرضِ مِنْ حُكمِهْ عدْلا

ويوسع أهلَ الأرضِ مِنْ حُكمِهْ عدْلا

He tears down the abode of tyranny with gleaming swords and spears,

Destroying the bastion of injustice with white swords and spears

And grants the people of the earth abundant justice through his rule.

And bringing justice to the people through his equitable rule

أرى الله منه الخلقَ باهرَ صُنعهِ

أرى الله منه الخلقَ باهرَ صُنعهِ

فَصَوَّر لِلّناسِ السَّماحةَ والفَضْلا

فَصَوَّر لِلّناسِ السَّماحةَ والفَضْلا

God showed humankind, through him, His wondrous handiwork,

God made His marvelous work shine in him

Thus He embodied generosity and excellence for people.

Molding for mankind magnanimity and grace

وأبرزَهُ في حَلْبَةِ المجدِ والعُلَى

وأبرزَهُ في حَلْبَةِ المجدِ والعُلَى

جواداً إذا صَلَّتْ فوارسُها جلَّى

جواداً إذا صَلَّتْ فوارسُها جلَّى

And brought him forth in the racecourse of glory and lofty rank,

He brought him forth into the arena of glory and nobility

A noble steed who takes first place when the arena's riders come second.

A steed who, when horsemen charge, is swift and unencumbered

لِيَهْن عمادَ الدّين منهُ مُسوّدٌ

لِيَهْن عمادَ الدّين منهُ مُسوّدٌ

به جمعَ اللهُ السِّيادة والنّبلا

به جمعَ اللهُ السِّيادة والنّبلا

May Imad al-Din be gladdened by a noble leader sprung from him,

So the pillars of faith will be strengthened through him, supported

In whom God has joined lordship and nobility.

God united through him sovereignty and excellence

غَدا لِلْمَعالي قُبْلةً فِي جبينها

غَدا لِلْمَعالي قُبْلةً فِي جبينها

إذا كانتِ الأملاك في ساقِها حجْلا

إذا كانتِ الأملاك في ساقِها حجْلا

He became a kiss upon the forehead of greatness,

He set out to uphold the highest ideals

When kings were an anklet upon its leg.

When empires bow down before him in humility

سميّ أمير المؤمنين الَّذي لهُ

سميّ أمير المؤمنين الَّذي لهُ

محامدُ في صحْف العُلى أبداً تُتْلَى

محامدُ في صحْف العُلى أبداً تُتْلَى

The namesake of the Commander of the Faithful, whose

Name him Amir al-Mu'minin, whose praises

Praiseworthy deeds are forever recited in the scrolls of lofty glory,

Will be forever recited in the scrolls of the sublime

إمام الورى زيد الّذي نعش الهدى

إمام الورى زيد الّذي نعش الهدى

ومدَّ على الآفاقِ من عَدْلهِ ظِلاً

ومدَّ على الآفاقِ من عَدْلهِ ظِلاً

The imam of humankind, Zayd, who revived right guidance,

The Imam of humanity, Zayd, who erected the standard of guidance

And spread the shade of his justice over the horizons,

And extended the shade of his justice over the horizons

وجدَدَ رسمَ الدينِ رسمَ الدينِ بعد اندراسِهِ

وجدَدَ رسمَ الدينِ رسمَ الدينِ بعد اندراسِهِ

وأَوسَعَ في أَعدائِه الأسر والقتلا

وأَوسَعَ في أَعدائِه الأسر والقتلا

And restored the imprint of the faith—the imprint of the faith—after its effacement,

He renewed the law of religion after its dissolution

And dealt his enemies abundant captivity and slaughter,

And dealt broadly with his enemies, capturing and killing them

بعزم يهدّ الراسيات مُصَمّمِ

بعزم يهدّ الراسيات مُصَمّمِ

ورأي إذا يُنْضَى جلا ظُلمَ الجُلَّي

ورأي إذا يُنْضَى جلا ظُلمَ الجُلَّي

With an unyielding resolve that shatters firmly rooted mountains,

With steely resolve demolishing mighty pillars

And judgment which, when unsheathed, dispels the darkness of great calamity.

And wisdom that clarifies when elucidated the confused

فشكراً لما أَولاكَ يا بْنَ مُحمّدٍ

فشكراً لما أَولاكَ يا بْنَ مُحمّدٍ

إلهَك ما أحْراهُ بالشّكرِ ما أوْلى

إلهَك ما أحْراهُ بالشّكرِ ما أوْلى

So give thanks for what you were granted, O son of Muhammad,

So thank you, O son of Muhammad

By your God—how worthy of thanks is what He bestowed!

For what your God decreed for you with thanks is only fitting

سَيَبْلغُ ما أمّلتَ فيهِ من العُلَى

سَيَبْلغُ ما أمّلتَ فيهِ من العُلَى

ويَلْبَسُ بُرداً للسَعادةِ لا يَبْلَى

ويَلْبَسُ بُرداً للسَعادةِ لا يَبْلَى

He will attain the heights you have hoped for in him,

You will attain the heights to which you aspired

And wear a cloak of happiness that will not wear out.

And be clothed with a mantle of glory that will never fade

ويقفو أميرَ المؤمنين سميَّه

ويقفو أميرَ المؤمنين سميَّه

ويسلكُ عَن قُربٍ طريقتَه الْمُثْلَى

ويسلكُ عَن قُربٍ طريقتَه الْمُثْلَى

And follow in the footsteps of the Commander of the Faithful, his namesake,

And emulate Amir al-Mu'minin, excelling him

And soon tread his exemplary path.

And follow closely in his ideal path

ويشربُ ريّاً مِن نَمير علومِهِ

ويشربُ ريّاً مِن نَمير علومِهِ

ويدرك من زخّارها العَلَّ والنَهْلاَ

ويدرك من زخّارها العَلَّ والنَهْلاَ

And drink his fill from the sweet waters of his learning,

Imbibing the pure wine of his knowledge

And obtain from its surging waters the second draught and the first.

And attaining through it the heights and wish fulfillment

ويُظْهر في الآفاق أنوار دينهِ

ويُظْهر في الآفاق أنوار دينهِ

ويملكُ في هذَا الورى العَقْدَ والحَلاَّ

ويملكُ في هذَا الورى العَقْدَ والحَلاَّ

And reveal the lights of his faith across the horizons,

Spreading in the horizons the light of his faith

And possess the power to bind and loose among these people.

And ruling in this world with power and dominion

ويَرْوي علومَ الطّهر آل النبيّ عَنْ

ويَرْوي علومَ الطّهر آل النبيّ عَنْ

أبيهِ الّذي جلَّى بميدانها طِفْلا

أبيهِ الّذي جلَّى بميدانها طِفْلا

And transmit the learning of the Prophet's pure family from

Drinking the wisdom of the Prophet's purified progeny from

His father, who took first place in its arena as a child.

Your father, who in his own time shone while still a child

ويتبعُه في القولِ والفِعْل مثلما

ويتبعُه في القولِ والفِعْل مثلما

حكَى قبلَهُ من جدّه القولَ والفِعلاَ

حكَى قبلَهُ من جدّه القولَ والفِعلاَ

And follow him in word and deed, just as

And following him in word and deed, just as

He had before him mirrored his grandfather in word and deed.

He recounted to you what his grandfather had done and said

أتَى بعد زيدٍ يقْتفي نهجَِ هَدْيه

أتَى بعد زيدٍ يقْتفي نهجَِ هَدْيه

ويوضحُ فينا بعدَهُ الفرضَ والنَّفلاَ

ويوضحُ فينا بعدَهُ الفرضَ والنَّفلاَ

He came after Zayd, following the path of his guidance,

There came after Zayd one who emulates his guidance

And after him makes clear among us obligatory and voluntary acts.

Clarifying for us after him religious duty and supererogation

فلا زالَ فينا ما أقامَ يلمْلَمُ

فلا زالَ فينا ما أقامَ يلمْلَمُ

يبينُ لنا منْ نهجِهِ الواضحِ السُّبْلاَ

يبينُ لنا منْ نهجِهِ الواضحِ السُّبْلاَ

So may he remain among us as long as Yalamlam stands,

He continues to make plain, piecing together

Showing us the ways of his clear path.

The clear path, its directions for us illuminated
