سلاماًa greeting أَلَذّmore delightful مِنthan السَّلسبيلSalsabil, a heavenly spring
سلاماً أَلَذّ مِن السَّلسبيل
وأَحْلاَand sweeter مِنَthan الوصْلِreunion بعدafter الصدودِestrangement
وأَحْلاَ مِنَ الوصْلِ بعد الصدودِ
A greeting more delightful than Salsabil,
Greetings sweeter than honeyed drink
And sweeter than reunion after estrangement,
And more delightful than reunion after estrangement
كَعَوْدِlike the return of الشّبابِyouth ورشْفِand sipping الرّضابِsaliva; the lips’ moisture
كَعَوْدِ الشّبابِ ورشْفِ الرّضابِ
وكَسْرand lowering الجفونِthe eyelids وضمّand embracing القدودِslender forms
وكَسْر الجفونِ وضمّ القدودِ
Like youth’s return and sipping the lips’ moisture,
Like the sapling of youth and the spray of meadows
And lowering the eyelids and embracing slender forms.
And the breaking of eyelids and the drawing together of cheeks
