وكنتُand I used to أرىthink أنّيthat I الصَّبورthe steadfast one عَلَىin the face of النَّوَىseparation
فَقَدْyet indeed نَقَضَتْhave unraveled أيديthe hands النوىseparation مِرَرَtwisted strands الصَّبرِpatience
And I used to think myself steadfast in separation,
I thought I was patient with adversity,
yet the hands of separation have unraveled the twisted strands of patience.
but adversity has broken the ropes of patience.
فإِنso if يَجْمعِgathers together اللهُGod المهيمنthe Guardian شَمْلَناour company
فذاكthen that الَّذيwhich أرجوهI hope for it فيin مقبلِthe coming part of العُمْرِlife
So if God, the Guardian, brings us together,
If the Almighty brings us back together,
then that is what I hope for in the life ahead.
that is what I hope for in days to come.
وإنand if حالَتِstood between الأَيَّامُthe days بَيْنيbetween me وبينكمand between you
فباللهِthen, by God ألاَّI beseech you مَاfor emphasis مَرَرْتُمyou passed علىby قَبْريmy grave
And if the days stand between me and you,
But if the days come between you and I,
then, by God, I beg you to pass by my grave.
I swear you will not pass by my grave uncaring.
