ألمhas it not يأنِbe time أنto تَسْتَقيلَyou seek pardon for العثارَاthe missteps
ألم يأنِ أن تَسْتَقيلَ العثارَا
وتُمْعِنَand you go far ممّاfrom what جَنَيتَyou have committed الفِرارَاin flight
وتُمْعِنَ ممّا جَنَيتَ الفِرارَا
Has the time not come for you to seek pardon for your missteps,
Has it not come time to quit your delusions
and flee far from the wrong you have done?
And flee what you have reaped of illusions
وقدand already وبّخَتْكَhave rebuked you صروفُvicissitudes الزَّمَtime (word begins here)
وقد وبّخَتْكَ صروفُ الزَّمَ
انِcompletion of “time” وزادتكَand given you more أحدَاثهنَّtheir events اعْتباراinsight from experience
انِ وزادتكَ أحدَاثهنَّ اعْتبارا
And time’s vicissitudes have already rebuked you,
Fate's turns have chastened you
and their events have increased your insight.
And their events rendered you wiser
وقدand already لاحَshone فيupon عارِضيكَyour two cheeks الوَقَdignity (word begins here)
وقد لاحَ في عارِضيكَ الوَقَ
ارُcompletion of “dignity” وأضْحىand has come to يناديcall for الوَقارُdignity الوقاراdignity
ارُ وأضْحى ينادي الوَقارُ الوقارا
And dignity has shone upon both your cheeks,
Age's ravages mark your face
and dignity now calls for dignity.
And dignity calls out to dignity
