    O Honor of Islam, may you remain honored,

    and may Pride never cease to take pride in your rank.

    Have you not seen Glory raise its neck

    toward your glory, now that you are its breast?

    فَلا مَرّ عصر أنتَ فيه ولا دَهْرُ

    And your generosity now adorns its throat;

    so may no age in which you live pass away, nor any era.

    ففي أَنفها شِنفٌ وفي أذنِها شذرُ

    You adorned Azal when you settled in her precincts;

    so her nose bears an earring, and her ear bears gold beads.

    فعادَ إلى رَيعانه مِنهما العُمرُ

    And while still young, you fashioned necklaces of verse and prose;

    so through them both, life returned to its youthful prime.

    ولا عجبٌ فالدرُّ معدِنُه البَحرُ

    And you hung pearls about the necks of poetry;

    and no wonder, for pearls have their source in the sea.

    وأصْبحَ سَهْلاً مِنْ هواطِله الوعرُ

    And your generosity has encompassed Najd and its lowlands;

    and its downpours have made the rugged ground smooth.

    So give me those little sheets without delay,

    so that I may do with them just what the cat does.

    And no wonder, my master, if they are read in such a way

    that a man's ten fingertips take turns handling his hearing.
