Indeed, Ibn Harb generously clothed me
The son of Harb generously offered me a cup
in a decrepit, ragged taylasan cloak.
Of aged, smooth wine

كَأَنَّماas though مُزِّقَit was torn فيat مَأتَمِa mourning gathering
Look at its many rips,
Look how torn it is
as though it had been torn at a mourning gathering.
As if it was ripped at a funeral

يَبنيbuilds بِناءًa structure قَوفَabove (apparently intended: فوق) مُستَهدَمِa ruined structure
In darning it, rotten as it is, I am like someone
I spurn it, though it is precious, like one
who builds a structure atop a ruined one.
Who builds a roof then knocks it down

A glance rends it with its flash,
Its flashing dazzles the eye
as it rends the heart of the lovesick lover.
Like the heart of a lovesick, passionate man

Its many rips remind me
Its many tears remind me
of the people dispersing from the festival.
Of people scattering from the holy place
