عَذَلوني عَلى الحَماقَةِ جَهلاً

عَذَلوني عَلى الحَماقَةِ جَهلاً

وَهيَ مِن عَقلِهِم أَلَذُّ وَأَحلى

وَهيَ مِن عَقلِهِم أَلَذُّ وَأَحلى

They reproached me for foolishness, out of ignorance,

They blame me for foolishness out of ignorance,

Though it is more delightful and sweeter than their wisdom.

Yet it is sweeter and more delicious than their reason.

حُمقِيَ اليَومَ قائِمٌ بِعِيالي

حُمقِيَ اليَومَ قائِمٌ بِعِيالي

وَيَموتونَ إِن تَعاقَلتُ ذُلّا

وَيَموتونَ إِن تَعاقَلتُ ذُلّا

My foolishness today provides for my family,

My foolishness today provides for my family,

And they would die in humiliation if I pretended to be wise.

While they would die if I were to act sensibly.
