طَيلَسانٌa mantle خَلَعتُهُI took it off
إِذwhen تَجافَوهُthey shunned it فيin الشِراbuying
A mantle I took off
My tongue I shed
when they passed it over while buying.
When companions turned against me
كَمhow often تَغَنّىsang عَلَيهِover it حيfirst part of حين, 'when'
نَcompletes حين, 'when' تَهَوّىfell down بَنوsons of الوَرىhumankind
How often it was sung over, when
How it sang to them when
the sons of humankind fell.
The people of the land inclined towards me
حَلَّbefell بيme مِثلَماjust as عَلِمknew (continued in عَلِمتَ)
تَyou (suffix completing عَلِمتَ) فَجِسميso my body كَماas تَرىyou see
It befell me, just as you
The same has befallen me, as you know
know; so my body is as you see.
So my body is as you see
