لَقَدindeed حالَفَhe allied himself with الرَفّاءَal-Raffaʾ (the darner) حَتّىto the point that كَأَنَّهُas though he
لَقَد حالَفَ الرَفّاءَ حَتّى كَأَنَّهُ
يُحاوِلُhe seeks مِنهُfrom him أَنthat يُعَلِّمَهُhe teaches him الرَفواdarning
يُحاوِلُ مِنهُ أَن يُعَلِّمَهُ الرَفوا
He has indeed allied himself with al-Raffaʾ, to the point that he seems
He befriended the gentle breeze, as though
to be seeking instruction in darning from him.
