قالَ الحَبيبُ مُعاتِباً لِي في الهَوَى

قالَ الحَبيبُ مُعاتِباً لِي في الهَوَى

صَبّرت قَلْبَكَ إِذْ صَدُّوا وإِذْ هَجَرُوا

صَبّرت قَلْبَكَ إِذْ صَدُّوا وإِذْ هَجَرُوا

The beloved said, reproaching me in love:

My beloved reproached me in love's name,

You taught your heart patience when they turned away and when they deserted you.

"You were patient when they turned away and abandoned."

فأَجَبْتُهُ قَلْبِي بِحُبِّكَ مَيِّتٌ

فأَجَبْتُهُ قَلْبِي بِحُبِّكَ مَيِّتٌ

وَلِذاكَ بَعْضُ المَيِّتينَ يُصَبَّرُ

وَلِذاكَ بَعْضُ المَيِّتينَ يُصَبَّرُ

So I answered him: My heart is dead from love for you,

I answered, "My heart is dead in your love,

And that is why some of the dead are embalmed.

And that is why some of the dead are buried."
