قُولُواTell لِزَجَّاجِكُمْto your glassmaker ذَاthis one الَّذِيwho
لَهُhe has مُحيَّاa face بِالسَّنَاwith radiance مُسْفِرُshining
Tell this glassmaker of yours, who
Tell your glassblower, he whose tinted
has a face shining with radiance:
cheeks are rosy with good health,
إنْif كُنْتَyou are فيin الصَّنْعَةِthe craft ذَاpossessed of خِبْرَةٍexpertise
وَكَانَand is مَعْرُوفُكَyour kindness لاnot يُنْكَرُdenied
If you have expertise in the craft,
If you are skilled in your craft
and your kindness cannot be denied,
and your good name is widely known,
فَمَاthen why لأَحْداقِكَwith your eyes أَقْدَاحُهاtheir goblets
فيin صِحَّةٍsoundness مِنْfrom حُسْنِهاtheir beauty تُكسَرُare broken
then why are the goblets of your eyes
Why do the wine glasses you fashion
broken by their beauty, though sound?
though fair, get broken easily?
