    وهَوَىً تَحكَّم عَقْدُهُ

    Tears—their necklace lies scattered;

And love—its knot has taken control.

O Love, save me from one who turns away,

Whose rejection is coupled with reproach.

Were it not for the wine of his saliva,

His figure would not have swayed in drunkenness.

A mouth whose martyr is fair game—

Why, then, is its honey guarded?

Nothing clothed me in the cloak of wasting sickness,

By your father, save his coldness.

    Indeed, I complain in love

Of what his cheek has taken to doing.

It never knew what cruelty was

    Until its rose blossomed.
