مُذْsince سَيَّجَhedged الوَرْدَthe roses مِنْهُof him آسٌmyrtle
طَارَflew فُؤَادِيmy heart لَهُto him وَعَشَّشْand nested
Since myrtle hedged his roses,
Since the rose was fenced off from him by grief
My heart flew to him and nested.
My heart took wing towards it and made its nest there.
فَصادَهُso it caught it فُخُّthe snare عَارِضَيهِhis two cheeks
بِحَبَّةِwith the seed الخالِof the mole حِينَwhen أَدْهَشْhe dazzled
Then the snare of his two cheeks caught it
But the down on his cheek waylaid it
With the seed of his mole, when he dazzled it.
With a beauty-spot, when it was off guard.
وَالذَّنْبُand the fault لِيis mine فِيin الهَوَىlove لِجَهْليbecause of my ignorance
لأَنَّbecause قَلْبِيmy heart بِهِwith him تَحَرَّشْpicked a quarrel
And the fault in love is mine, through my ignorance,
The fault is mine through ignorant passion
For my heart provoked him.
Because my heart was caught there in its snare.
