ياO مَنْyou who هَجرabandoned المُحبَّthe lover مِنْfrom غَيرِwithout سَببْcause
يا مَنْ هَجر المُحبَّ مِنْ غَيرِ سَببْ
وَاسْتبدلَand replaced بِالوَصْلِin place of union صُدوداًaversion وغَضبْand anger
وَاسْتبدلَ بِالوَصْلِ صُدوداً وغَضبْ
O you who abandoned the lover without cause,
O you who abandoned your lover for no reason
and replaced union with aversion and anger:
And replaced union with rejection and anger
إنif متُّI die مِنfrom الهَجْرabandonment فماthen it is not ذاكَthat عجَبْa wonder
إن متُّ مِن الهَجْر فما ذاكَ عجَبْ
بَلْrather إنْif سَلِمتْsurvives رُوحيmy soul فَهذاكَthen that عَجبْa wonder
بَلْ إنْ سَلِمتْ رُوحي فَهذاكَ عَجبْ
if I die of abandonment, that is no wonder;
If I die of this separation, that's no wonder
rather, if my soul survives, that is a wonder.
But if my soul survives, that would be a wonder
