قَدْindeed مَالَinclined سَمْعِيmy hearing إِلىtoward عُذَّالِهِits reproachers فِيكَاconcerning you
يَكْفِيكَsuffices you تَلْوِيحُthe hint of هَذاthis القَوْلِstatement يَكْفِيكَاsuffices you
My ear has indeed inclined toward its reproachers concerning you.
My hearing has inclined towards those who blame you
The hint in these words is enough for you—enough for you.
This hint of speech should suffice you
كَمْhow often بِتَّyou spent the night تَفْكُرyou think بُغْضاًout of hatred كَيْفhow تُسْخِطُنيyou anger me
وَبِتُّand I spent the night أَفْكرُI think حُبّاًout of love كَيْفَhow أُرْضِيكَاI please you
How often you spent the night thinking, out of hatred, how to anger me,
How long have you thought with hatred? How can I appease you?
while I spent the night thinking, out of love, how to please you.
While I think with love, how can I please you?
ياO نَاظِريَّmy two eyes ارْقُداsleep, you two لاnot لِلخيالِfor the phantom وَياand O
قَلْبيmy heart اسْترِحْrest مِنْfrom هَوَىlove مَنْone who كَادَnearly يُفْنِيكَاdestroys you
O my eyes, sleep—not for the phantom—and O
O my eyes, sleep not in fantasy, and
my heart, rest from loving one who nearly destroyed you.
O my heart, rest from the love of one who almost destroyed you
وَكَيْفَand how أَرْضَيI accept لِنَفْسيfor myself أَنْto أُسوِّدَmake a master of مَنْone who
لَمْdid not يَرْضَaccept أَنّيthat I لَهُto him أَصْبَحْتُI became مَمْلُوكَاa slave
And how could I accept as my master one
And how can I satisfy myself to blacken one
who would not accept that I had become his slave?
Who was not satisfied that I had become his slave?
