May the settlements never lack your radiance,

For through you their darkness is dispelled.

    فَهوَ مُذْ غِبْتُم بِهنَّ بُكاءُ

    Rain's tears once watered them;

But since you left, they are weeping there.

For one to whom your meanings have spoken,

How can names hold his reins?

My wish at the dwelling, Asma, is not that you be generous

With union, or that a meeting endure.

While we were at the dwellings, and long

Had we stood, and long had we hoped,

Suddenly breezes drifted from their dwellings:

Smiles, with satisfaction in their wake.

Welcome, welcome! Over them lie veils

Of affection, whose hems are faithfulness.
