لِلْعاشِقينَfor lovers بِأَحْكَامِwith the decrees of الغَرَامِpassion رِضَاcontentment
لِلْعاشِقينَ بِأَحْكَامِ الغَرَامِ رِضَا
فَلاso do not تَكُنْbe ياO فَتىyoung man بِالعَذْلِwith reproach مُعْتَرِضاobjecting
فَلا تَكُنْ يا فَتى بِالعَذْلِ مُعْتَرِضا
Lovers are content with the decrees of passion.
The lovers acquiesce to love's decrees,
So do not, young man, raise objections through reproach.
So do not, my boy, object to separation.
رُوحيmy soul الفِدَاءُthe ransom لأَحْبابيfor my beloveds وَإِنْand even if نَقَضُواthey break
رُوحي الفِدَاءُ لأَحْبابي وَإِنْ نَقَضُوا
عَهْدَthe pledge of المُحِبِّthe lover الَّذيwho لِلْعَهْدِas to the pledge مَاnot نَقَضَاhe broke
عَهْدَ المُحِبِّ الَّذي لِلْعَهْدِ مَا نَقَضَا
My soul is a ransom for my beloveds, even if they break
My soul is ransom for my loved ones, even if
The pledge of the lover who never broke that pledge.
They break the pact of the lover, who never broke a pact.
قِفْstop واسْتَمِعْand listen سِيرَةَthe tale of الصَّبِّthe lovelorn man الَّذيwhom قَتَلُواthey killed
قِفْ واسْتَمِعْ سِيرَةَ الصَّبِّ الَّذي قَتَلُوا
فَماتَso he died فيin حُبِّهِمlove for them لَمْnot يَبْلُغِhe attained الغَرَضَاthe desired goal
فَماتَ في حُبِّهِم لَمْ يَبْلُغِ الغَرَضَا
Stop and listen to the tale of the lovelorn man they killed.
Stop and listen to the tale of the smitten youth they killed,
So he died for love of them, without attaining his desire.
Who died loving them, before attaining his goal.
رَأَىhe saw فَحبَّthen he loved فَسامَthen he sought الوَصْلَunion فامْتَنَعُواbut they refused
رَأَى فَحبَّ فَسامَ الوَصْلَ فامْتَنَعُوا
فَرامَthen he sought صَبْراًpatience فأَعْيَاbut proved too difficult نَيْلُهُattaining it فَقَضَىso he died
فَرامَ صَبْراً فأَعْيَا نَيْلُهُ فَقَضَى
He saw, then loved, then sought union, but they refused.
He saw and fell in love, yearned for union, but they refused.
Then he sought patience, but attaining it proved beyond him, and so he died.
He tried patience, but it exhausted him, so he passed away.
