كَأَنّنيas though I واللَّواحِيand the reproaching women فيin مَحَبَّتِهِlove for him
كَأَنّني واللَّواحِي في مَحَبَّتِهِ
فِيon يَوْمِthe day of صِفّينSiffin قَدْindeed قُمْناwe stood بِصَفّيْنِin two ranks
فِي يَوْمِ صِفّين قَدْ قُمْنا بِصَفّيْنِ
It is as though I and the women who reproach me for loving him
As though I and the meadows in his love
had stood in two ranks on the day of Siffin.
On the day of Siffin had stood in two ranks.
وَكَيْفَand how يَطْلُبُhe seeks صُلْحاًpeace أَوor مُوَافَقَةًaccord
وَكَيْفَ يَطْلُبُ صُلْحاً أَو مُوَافَقَةً
وَلَحْظهُand his glance بَيْنَنَاbetween us يَسْعىruns بِسَيْفينِwith two swords
وَلَحْظهُ بَيْنَنَا يَسْعى بِسَيْفينِ
And how can he seek peace or accord,
How can he seek peace or agreement
while his glance runs between us with two swords?
When his glance between us runs with two swords?
