If you were among us, lovesick and enamored,
If you were among us, madly in love,
You would be too absorbed in love to complain,
You would be preoccupied with love, not complaining,

Until you saw the mildest of what we encounter
Until you see the easiest thing we meet
As the greatest of the afflictions you recount.
Is the greatest ordeal you speak of.
مَاnot عَزَّattained honor صَبٌّa passionate lover قَطُّever فيin صَبْوَةٍpassion
إِلَّاexcept إِذَاwhen ذَلَّhe humbled himself لِمَنْto the one whom يَهْوَىhe loves
No passionate lover ever attained honor in love
No lover has ever persevered through passion
Except when he humbled himself before the one he loves.
Unless humbled for the one he adores.
