كَانَhe was بِعَيْنَيْنِwith two eyes فَلمَّاthen when طَغَىhe went too far
كَانَ بِعَيْنَيْنِ فَلمَّا طَغَى
بِسِحْرِهwith his magic رُدّhe was reduced إِلَىto عَيْنِone eye
بِسِحْرِه رُدّ إِلَى عَيْنِ
He had two eyes; then, when he went too far
With two eyes he once could see
with his magic, he was reduced to one eye.
But magic made him go back to one
وَذاكَand that مِنْout of لُطْفٍkindness بِعُشَّاقِهِto his lovers
وَذاكَ مِنْ لُطْفٍ بِعُشَّاقِهِ
مَاnot يَضْرِبُstrikes اللَّهGod بِسَيْفَينِwith two swords
مَا يَضْرِبُ اللَّه بِسَيْفَينِ
And that was out of kindness to his lovers:
Yet God shows kindness to lovers true
God does not strike with two swords.
And never strikes with two swords in hand
